The Australian Turf Club is offering free entry to race goers this Saturday, 22 December at Warwick Farm for the popular pre-Christmas Inglis Villiers Stakes race day.
Along with free entry to the course, there will be a number of fun, free activities trackside including a jumping castle, ‘reindeer’ rides, face painting, carollers and an appearance by Santa, plus one lucky racegoer will win a $300 voucher at The Star in the Club’s SMS competition.
The day also boasts an eight-race program featuring the Group 2 $175,000 Inglis Villiers Stakes over 1600m. Reigning Villiers Stakes winner Monton (Sam Clipperton) is the top weight at 59kg after finishing a strong second to Malavio in the Festival Stakes on 8 December. The six-year-old gelding currently sits on the second line in the betting at $8.50 and will have a fierce competition from last start winner Kinnersley (Tommy Berry) from the Gai Waterhouse stable. Peter Snowden-trained Galah (Kerrin McEvoy) is the TAB Fixed Odds favourite at $6.00 in a wide-open market.
Rick Worthington-trained Whitefriars (Jim Cassidy) will be the one to watch in the Listed $100,000 Razor Sharp Stakes over 1200m. The gelding will return to the track after a long injury lay off and will start as the top weight at 61.5kg after displaying good form in recent barrier trials.
The best young two-year-olds will be on show in the $250,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m) as their careers progress towards the $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens next April. Canberra-based Chasing Charlie (Carl Spry) will be chasing back-to-back wins after an impressive 2.5 length winning debut while well bred Choisir colt Standard Bearer (Hugh Bowman) from the Noel Mayfield-Smith yard will be looking to go one better than his close first up second at Rosehill Gardens in October.
The first race gets underway at 1.00pm and gates open to the public at 11.30am. The rail will be in the True position and the track is currently rated at a Good 3.
