Looking for a little bit of value then don’t leave Hawkesbury horseman Garry Frazer off the betting list at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
As the autumn carnival heats up the trainer has Hurrara resuming in the Expressway Stakes while Misshiraz returns from a spell in the second event.
“Misshiraz is not without a chance at a big price,” Frazer said on Friday.
“She loves Warwick Farm, she is going good, trialled good.”
Misshiraz was an $80,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale purchase and the return for owner Kevin Bastian has been $216,520.
The daughter of Secret Savings has competed 28 times and recorded five wins, two seconds and a third while Misshiraz has won two from five at Warwick Farm.
“She is not the slowest one around,” Frazer assured.
“I’ve never had one win just over $200,000 in prizemoney, that is slow.”
Hurrara is raced by the White family, who recently lost patriarch Geoff. Prolific owner-breeders and major race winners the Whites’ have around “half a dozen horses” with Frazer.
“They’ve been great supporters of mine,” Frazer said.
Hurrara has been to races on 25 occasions and been first home six times. There have been four seconds and three thirds which has resulted in $241,620 being earned.
But the Hussonet five-year-old is venturing into new territory for the Expressway Stakes carries group 2 status.
“We’re throwing him in the deep-end,” Frazer said.
“He hasn’t been to this level before and we’ll see what happens. The horse does have a lot of speed, the strike rate, the record is pretty good.
“I’ve always thought he could win a nice race at some stage and this might be the preparation to do it.
“Without knocking his rivals tomorrow, they have been around a bit and they don’t win out of turn.”
Like Misshiraz, Hurrara has had the benefit of a recent barrier trial and she too, has pleased Frazer at home.
“Hurrara didn’t run last week because of a real heavy track and there hasn’t been another suitable race for him,” Frazer said.
“I say this horse is going real good. He looks tremendous and always goes pretty well first and second-up.
“He might be out of his depth but stranger things have happened. I know one thing for sure, he can’t win sitting in his box at home, I’m sure of that.”
