Racing NSW is pleased to announce the appointment of two leading investigators to head the new Investigations and Surveillance Unit that will complement the work of the Racing NSW Stewards Panel. The appointments are part of Racing NSW proactive agenda to maintain its leadership position in ensuring integrity within the industry.
Mr Nathan Hayward has been appointed to the position of Chief Investigator. Mr Hayward has over 15 years’ experience in law enforcement including serving with the NSW Police Force. During his time with the NSW Police, Mr Hayward was involved in investigations in conjunction with the Homicide Squad, Armed Robbery Unit, Counter Terrorism Command and the Integrity Testing Unit.
He was also involved in joint operations with ASIO, Australia Federal Police and the NSW Crime Commission. More recently Nathan worked with the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) where he was involved in every major investigation conducted by ICAC.
Mr Albert Gardner has been appointed to the position of Racecourse Detective & Compliance Officer. Mr Gardner is an experienced regulator having been designated a detective/investigator with Federal and State agencies including NSW Police Force, Australian Federal Police, National Crime Authority, NSW Crime Commission, NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and NSW Royal Commission into the Building Industry.
Racing NSW Chairman of Stewards, Mr Ray Murrihy, praised the formation of the new unit and particularly looks forward to the new unit forging an even closer liaison with State and Federal law enforcement agencies.
Racing NSW Chief Executive, Mr Peter V’landys, said: “The Investigations and Surveillance Unit will add a range of expertise and be a valuable adjunct to the Stewards panel by being proactive in the industry in ensuring the integrity of NSW racing remains at the highest level.
“The appointments of these high class investigators with many years of experience between them will ensure that Racing NSW uses the best possible practices to ensure that both punters and participants can have confidence at all times of a level playing field.”
Racing NSW is also pleased to announce the appointment of Mr John Davidson to the position of Chairman of Stewards – SDRA, Wagga Wagga, following the resignation of Geoff Hausfeld. Mr Davidson has over 20 years of experience as a Stipendiary Steward including as Chairman of Stewards in the Northern Rivers of NSW and the Canberra Race Club. Mr Davidson is currently employed by Singapore Turf Club as a Senior Stipendiary Steward, a position he has held since 2007.
Racing NSW Chairman of Stewards, Mr Ray Murrihy, said: “The return of Mr Davidson to the NSW Stewards Panel will further strengthen the panel’s depth of talent and will maintain the safety and integrity standards in the Southern Regions of NSW.”
