Puissance De Lune To Begin Spring Preparation

Early Melbourne Cup favourite Puissance De Lune will return to trainer Darren Weir’s Warrnambool stable in the next fortnight to begin his spring preparation.

The French import is coming along nicely after undergoing successful surgery to remove bone chips from his front fetlocks earlier this year.

“Everything went as good as it could go with the surgery,” Weir said.

Puissance De Lune has created huge impression after he won the listed Bendigo Cup (2400m) by 8 lengths last October.

The grey gelding followed that up when he annihilated a top field in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2500m) on the last day of the Melbourne Cup carnival..

After a spell, Puissance De Lune had resumed with a dead-heat victory in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington in March before bone chips were discovered in his front fetlocks.

Racing Victoria chief handicapper Greg Carpenter said Puissance De Lune would likely receive 53.5kg or 54kg in the Melbourne Cup, a weight that would see him gain a start in the Cup.
