This year’s Scone Cup Carnival two-day race meeting is shaping up to be the greatest country carnival ever held.
Noel Leckie, president of Scone Race Club, said: “The weather outlook is promising and the track is in perfect order. No less than 40 Stakes winners will be among those competing for almost two million dollars in prizemoney, including 19 Group winners.”
Friday is highlighted by the Emirates Park Scone Cup which this year has arguably the most competitive field ever in its 66-year history and is headed by last year’s Epsom winner, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Fat Al, last year’s winner Raspberries from the Darley camp and Chris Waller will be bringing Group 3 winner Firebolt, as well as NZ Group 1 performer Say No More.
Saturday’s meeting has a stunning line up of Stakes-winning and placed performers. The $500,000 Inglis Guineas (RL) is headed up by Group 3 winners Flying Snitzel (Gerald Ryan), Lunar Rise (Bart Cummings) and Ashokan (Gai Waterhouse). Anthony Cummings’s unbeaten Listed filly Missy Cummings will be among those trying to rein in the top three.
The Darley Dark Jewel Classic (L) brings together a quality field headed by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Miss Stellabelle. Other Stakes-winning fillies and mares include Shannara, Soft Sand, Angel of Mercy and City of Song.
The Yarraman Park/Horsepower Luskin Star Stakes (L) has an amazing five Group winners including Group One-winning Sniper’s Bullet and Group Three winners Decision Time, Skytrain, Fontelina and Star of Octagonal.
The meeting concludes with the running of the Pryde’s EasiFeed Ortensia Stakes (L). The multiple Group One-winning and internationally renowned mare Ortensia will attempt to ‘do a Black Caviar’ and win the race named after her. Opposing her will be Group Two winner Mic Mac and Satin Shoes, as well as Group Three winner Zaratone and Listed winner Border Rebel.
