Three-time Group 1 winner Anamoe is likely to race on in the spring as long as the valuable stallion prospect remains healthy.
Godolphin’s manager director Vin Cox said on Monday that while no firm decision has been made on the colt’s future, it was hoped the horse can race on and possibly become Godolphin’s first Cox Plate winner after coming so close when runner-up last year.
“No formal decision has been made but at this stage we’re hopeful of him having another crack at the spring carnival,” Cox said.
“He’s come out of that Queen Elizabeth run in good order and the intention, at this point, is to race him on but we’ve just got to make sure the horse is right and well before committing to the spring.”
Anamoe headlined a tough day for Godolphin when he failed to beat a horse home on a bottomless track in the $4m G1 Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on Day 2 of the Championships.
In a most disappointing afternoon at a sodden Randwick, their star mare Colette also finished last in her final race start as the favourite in the G1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m).
But Godolphin bounced back last Saturday when Cascadian won the G1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) and Kementari took the G3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m).
Cox said a Queensland trip would be considered for Cascadian this winter.
“But he’s had a pretty busy autumn and there are some really nice races for him over the spring that we’d like to get him ready for.”
Cox said the stable would be represented in Adelaide this Saturday in the R.N. Irwin Stakes (1100m) in the form of 2019 Stradbroke Handicap winner Trekking. He will then progress two weeks later to the G1 Goodwood (1200m), a race he won in 2020.
