Montefilia Joins Chris Waller Stable Ahead Of Spring Carnival

In a significant move ahead of the highly anticipated Spring Carnival, four-time Group 1 winner Montefilia has switched trainers and joined the renowned Chris Waller stable.

Previously trained by David Payne, the five-year-old mare has been absent from the racing scene since her ninth-place finish in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), where she finished 7.8 lengths behind the winner at Randwick on April 8.

Following that performance, Montefilia was purchased by Yulong Investments for an impressive $3.4 million at the 2023 Inglis Chairman’s Sale held in May.

Montefilia’s notable victories include the 2022 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m), where she displayed her dominance by defeating Verry Elleegant.

Additionally, she triumphed in the 2021 Group 1 Metropolitan (2400m), the 2020 Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m), and the 2021 Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).

While her recent form has not been as strong, bookmakers currently place her as a $51 chance for the 2023 Melbourne Cup, where racing enthusiasts eagerly await her potential comeback under Chris Waller’s guidance.
