EXCITING is how Nash Rawiller describes Pitcrew, who puts his unbeaten record on the line in Saturday’s Share Care Congrats Chris Waller Handicap at Warwick Farm.
After taking time to mature – helped by being gelded – Pitcrew, a winner on a Slow 7 and Heavy 10 at both his starts, is starting to deliver on the potential Rawiller always thought the youngster possessed.
“I’ve got no doubt he will progess on to better things, he’s a very nice type of horse,” Rawiller said.
While mindful that Pitcrew, which has to shoulder 59kg on possibly the best surface he’s raced on, Rawiller said he’s always believed this son of Sebring would be better on firmer footing.
Rawiller said Pitcrew is big striding horse who gave him the feel that he would be every bit as good, if not better on top of the ground and stepping out to 1600 metres wouldn’t be a concern.
“He raced a fraction keen at Rosehill (last start) when there was a bit of pressure outside him, but he realised what I wanted him to do he came back underneath me beautifully. He gave me the indication that once he gains the experience the mile won’t be a problem,” Rawiller said.
“All you can do is win and when I asked him for a second effort he responded beautifully over the last 100 (metres). He is a pretty exciting horse.”
