Narromine Is Pitch-Perfect For Next Sunday’s Meeting

One of the racing highlights next week will be at the small town 40km west of Dubbo called Narromine – former home of one of Australia’s greatest bowlers Glenn McGrath.

McGrath was born in Dubbo but raised in Narromine where his potential was spotted by the legendary Doug Walters and the rest is history.

Next Sunday, Narromine Turf Club will stage an excellent day of racing, live music and family fun featuring the $40,000 Three Rivers Machinery Case IH Gold Cup and the Douglas Egan Memorial.

The Club will provide free face painting and a free jumping castle for the kids with live music by local singer/guitarist Shane Riley.

Full bar facilities with food and catering options by Soul Food Depot along with coffee vendors will be available.

Down south next Saturday will be Narrandera’s season closing race meeting with their Sky TAB Community Day highlighted by the T.C. Lee OAM Memorial Cup.

“Tom Lee was an icon of Narrandera and was on Narrandera Race Club’s committee for more than 50 years,” said the Club’s Michael Bailey.

“Tom was also involved as treasurer of Narrandera Lizards Rugby League Club and heavily involved in Legacy for many years.

“He was a true gentleman and a strong supporter of Narrandera at all levels; we are proud to host this community celebration in his memory each year.

“On raceday we’ll have a Fashions on the Field with marquees and a luncheon available plus entertainment.

“It’s been fabulous racing season so far and this Narrandera Ex-Servicemans Club-sponsored meeting will continue that trend.

“Although this is our last programmed meeting for the year the Club is always on standby, as we have been in the past, should any meetings need to be transferred in the Southern Districts.”

Another big meeting on Saturday is the annual Cobar Miner’s picnic day. The five-race meeting is headed by the Allan Wells Memorial Picnic Cup with an Aussie BBQ, pizzas and picnic food available.

There will also be a Tina Turner tribute with a prize on offer for the ‘Best Dressed Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ and return buses available.
