New Sponsor Fuelling Momentum Towards Goulburn Cup

With a new sponsor in Campbell’s Petroleum fuelling momentum towards this year’s $200,000 Goulburn Cup (Sunday 5 November) expect another exciting edition if results of recent years are anything to go by.

The last five editions of the sought-after showcase race have been decided by a combined margin of no more than two lengths. Within those two lengths sits some handy horseflesh with recent winners including:

2022 Oscar Zulu (length), 2021 Al Mah Haha (short head), 2020 Al Mah Haha (nose), 2019 Quackerjack (0.5 length), 2018 Interlocuter (neck)

The country cup race is the first chance statewide for trainers to signal serious intent for Big Dance qualification in 2024.

This year’s Campbell’s Petroleum Goulburn Cup will be run two days before the 2023 edition of the Big Dance (Cepheus is current TAB favourite at $4.50).

Goulburn Race Club’s CEO, Robyn Fife said she expects the recent buzz surrounding The Kosciuszko and TAB Everest Day to carry over into a lucrative showcase Goulburn Cup program.

“Goulburn Race Club will host Goulburn Cup Day on Sunday 5th November, with the showcase meeting offering close to $500,000 in prizemoney,” Ms Fife highlighted.

“It’s been great for our racing scene to have two locally trained horses in The Kosciuszko on TAB Everest Day and even better to see one salute! Well done to Matt Dale and his team on their win with Front Page.”

Ms. Fife said the Goulburn Cup Day program offers plenty of opportunities for trainers, owners and their horses.

“The Campbells Petroleum Goulburn Cup will be supported by races such as The Guy Walter /Newgate Farm F&M Class 3 over 1300m and the Country Magic Benchmark 66 Hcp over 1600m.”

Nominations for the Goulburn Cup program close two weeks from today on Tuesday 31st October at 11am.

Ms. Fife says there’ll also be plenty happening off-track to match the high-class racing: “There is still a limited range of hospitality packages available for Cup Day and there will be the keenly contested Fashions on the Field (valued at $3000) and live music as well.”
