Almond Eye In Foal To Equinox

It could be racing’s perfect match!

News emerged from Japan on Wednesday that champion race mare Almond Eye is in foal to Equinox, the recently retired glamour colt who has taken up residence at Shadai Stallion Station.

A six-time Group 1 winner, including a breathtaking victory in last year’s Japan Cup, Equinox retired to stud as the highest-priced first-season sire in Japanese history with a service fee of JPY20,000,000 (approximately AUD$193,000).

Almond Eye’s first foal, a two-year-old by Epiphaneia, has been named Aaron’s Rod and is in training with Sakae Kunida. She also has a yearling colt by Maurice and a filly foal by Kitasan Black.

The daughter of Lord Kanaloa retired in 2020 after a ninth G1 win in the Japan Cup.

Almond eye is due to give birth to her Equinox foal in February.
