Pride Of Jenni ‘Loving Her Work’

Pride Of Jenni is far from a fair-weather champion, with the superstar mare coping well with the cold June conditions at Cranbourne on Tuesday morning.

The Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner and early favourite for spring’s Cox Plate may have enjoyed more of a leisurely canter on Tuesday, but as trainer Ciaron Maher’s assistant Jack Turnbull said, she is building strongly towards her spring campaign.

In a short video that was posted to owners Tony and Lynn Ottobre’s Pride Of Jenni X account, Turnbull said the stable is pleased with the mare in the early stages of her preparation.

“Pride Of Jenni, she went evens (time) on Saturday and she’s come through it very well and she’s just had a routine canter this morning with Sammy (Waters, her strapper) and she will look to speed up again on Thursday,” Turnbull said.

“She’s got pretty good residual (fitness) off last preparation so she should come to hand relatively quicky, but we will just monitor her and manage her as she does speed up.

“Weight’s good, looks terrific.”

Waters said Pride Of Jenni was in a good place: “Really happy. She’s bouncing out of her skin at the moment. Moving super. Loving her work.”
