Spring is upon us as the new breeding season has begun. Last season, apart from Lonhro siring the juvenile triple crown winner Pierro, Fastnet Rock had taken all the honour and deservedly being crowned the Australian Champion Sire. The Coolmore-owned star had wrapped up the stallions’ premiership halfway through the season, and continued to smash record after record, siring stars like Atlantic Jewel, Mosheen, Sea Siren and Foxwedge. The most striking point to come from Fastnet Rock’s title is the class of stallions he bested. Champions such as Lonhro, Redoute’s Choice and More Than Ready. Fastnet Rock eventually finished the season with 130 individual winners of 231 races, and 16 of his progeny won 31 black-type races, including 10 at group 1 level by four separate runners.
Coolmore Stud has just announced the fees for the new breeding season, with Fastnet Rock’s service fee increased from $132,000 to $220,000. That’s a hefty increased but mare’s owners could still make a good profit consider how well his progeny sell at different auction rings around the country.
