Shinzo produced a flawless performance at Rosehill on Saturday to give champion trainer Chris Waller his first Golden Slipper and champion sire Snitzel his second winner of the world’s richest race for two-year-olds.
Coolmore’s home-bred colt jumped well from gate 1 to gain an ideal position mid-field on the fence. When he was asked to quicken at the 350-metre mark, Shinzo responded generously to score with clear authority from Cylinder and King’s Gambit.
Renowned international jockey Ryan Moore, called up for the Golden Slipper ride by Coolmore’s Tom Magnier, was impressed by Shinzo’s potential as well as his performance.
“He’s a very talented colt, he’s got a super attitude. Lovely big, strong, long-striding horse.
“I’m sure he’s not just an out-and-out six furlong sprinter. I’m sure he’s going to be more comfortable when he gets over more ground. It feels like he’s improving and he’ll continue to improve and all being well he’ll have a good future.”
Shinzo is the second foal, after his multiple stakes-winning full sister Exhilarates, out of the Blue Diamond & Moir Stakes winner Samaready (by More Than Ready). Coolmore purchased Samaready, carrying Shinzo, for $1.8 million from the 2020 Inglis Chairman’s Sale where she was offered by Vinery Stud.
Shinzo is Snitzel’s 19th Group 1 winner and the sixth to achieve that status at two. He takes the Champion Sire’s season earnings in Australia this season to $14 million which puts Snitzel in second spot on the main Premiership.
