Since the barrier draw on Saturday, the betting market for the Melbourne Cup has changed slightly. The two race favourites, Americain and Dunaden, have been steady in betting at $5.50 and $7.00 respectively.
After drawing a good gate at barrier 8, Luca Cumani trained Mount Athos has come into $7.50 for most fixed odds operators. Last year’s runner up, Red Cadeaux has firmed from $11.00 into $10.00 even though the horse has drawn barrier 18.
Local hope Maluckyday has been steady at $13.00 and so has the Australian Derby winner Ethiopia at $19.00
