Dermot Weld, trainer of Melbourne Cup hopeful Galileo’s Choice has engaged champion Irish jockey Pat Smullen to ride the horse in the big race. Weld certainly knows how to train a Melbourne Cup winner having been successful with Vintage Crop in 1993 and Media Puzzle in 2002. And Smullen had a few rides in the Cup in the last 8 years with his best result being on the Weld’s trained Vinnie Roe who finished second to Makybe Diva in 2004.
