Winners For 2024 Lord Mayors Cup Day

This Saturday’s Lord Mayors Cup meeting will be held at Rosehill Gardens (1st June). The course proper was rated a Soft 5 on Thursday and with showers forecast for Friday and Saturday, Rosehill is likely to be racing on a Soft track on raceday.

The unbeaten Captain Furai could be the one to beat in the EGroup Protective Services Handicap (Sydney Race 4, 1500m) The lightly raced gelding has won both his career starts this campaign and it’s natural progression stepping up to 1500m third-up. The 3YO puts himself in the race by settling in a stalking position and he handles any track conditions. Joshua Parr will go forward and sit one off one back and Captain Furai will be ready to pounce rounding the home turn.

The Godolphin-owned Pisanello is looking to continue his strong form this preparation by taking out the Bisley Workwear Handicap (Sydney Race 5, 1100m). This consistent gelding resumed with a close 2nd at Wyong on a Heavy 10  track before coming from a long way back to annihilate the field by 3.2 lengths at Scone two weeks ago. Fitter again when third-up on Saturday and he loves 1100m with two wins and two 2nds from four attempts at the trip. The in-form Zac Lloyd will settle mid-field and Pisanello will be full of running down the Rosehill straight.

Political Debate could be a great light weight chance from the Waller stable to take out the Lord Mayors Cup (Sydney Race 7, 2000m). Two starts back, the gelding finished a terrific 2nd in the Wagga Cup behind Fawkner Park and that horse had franked the form with a close 3rd last week in the Group 1 Doomben Cup. Last Saturday, Political Debate got too far back in a slowly run race at Randwick. He didn’t have a tough run hence Waller has decided to back the 4YO up this week. He is rock hard fit, handles any track condition and with a light weight (53kg). Currently at $10.00 fixed odds, Political Debate represents a great value bet.
