This Saturday’s Sydney meeting will be held at Royal Randwick (25th May). The course proper was rated a Soft 6 on Thursday and with light drizzle in Sydney leading up to the weekend, Randwick will border on Good/Soft condition on raceday.
The Godolphin-owned Pisces can start punters on a winning way in the opening event at Randwick (Sydney Race 1, 1200m). The 2YO gelding resumed with a close 4th over 1100m at Rosehill before a smart victory at six furlong two weeks ago. Pisces can handle any track condition and staying at 1200m suits. Rachel King takes over the rein and will go forward and sit one off one back in a stalking position. Pisces is the one they all have to beat.
Perennial Highway winner Matthew Dunn has another top chance, Orient’s Secret, racing in Saturday’s Highway Handicap (Sydney Race 3, 1200m). A consistent 4YO gelding, who had picked up late ground when 2nd beaten half a length first-up at Ipswich. Fitter when second-up on Saturday. And 1200m is his pet distance with two wins and two 2nds from five starts at the trip. Chad Schofield will drop back in the field and Orient’s Secret is going to run over the top of this field.
Piggyback can provide Ashley Morgan a Saturday winner by taking out the Wilson Asset Management Handicap (Sydney Race 6, 1800m). This lightly raced filly won on debut over 1200m at Gosford last year. Piggyback won first-up over 1400m at Orange before zipping home into 3rd last start at Newcastle over the mile. Fitter again having her third run back from a break and she is ready to step up to 1800m. The 3YO has a positive draw (gate 2) and Morgan will be settling just behind the leading bunch with Piggyback ready to pounce rounding the home turn.
