The connections of champion three-year-old Pierro have decided to retire the horse from racing.
The news came only days after the retirement of world champion sprinter Black Caviar.
Pierro finished a courageous 2nd under 57kg to Sacred Falls in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile last Saturday. The loss was his first in Sydney, with owner Greg Kolivas and trainer Gai Waterhouse believing the colt had achieved enough.
Pierro raced 14 times for 11 victories inclduing last season’s 2YO triple crown for a total of almost $4.5 million in prize money.
No stud deal has been reached but Pierro’s value as a stallion prospect has been put as high as $25 million.
