Alligator Blood Set To trial

Alligator Blood is getting the jump on his elite rivals in 2024 with the seven-time Group 1 winner set to trial in Sydney on Thursday.

The seven-year-old is down to trial for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott at Rosehill over 900 metres for jockey Adam Hyeronimus.

Part-owner Jeff Simpson told Racing.com last month that Alligator Blood could just have two runs this autumn in Melbourne before connections decide whether he will race on again in the spring as an eight-year-old.

He said Alligator Blood, who had spine surgery as a young horse, had provided connections with a long list of highlights over 35 stars and who were keen not to over-race the horse.

His likely runs are in the race he won 12 months ago – the G1 $750,000 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 24 – before he again tackles the $4 million All-Star Mile at Caulfield on March 16.

Also set to appear in the same trial at Rosehill on Thursday is the 2022 Victoria Derby winner Manzoice.
