ATC Cup Headlines Racing At Warwick Farm

Racing returns to Warwick Farm this Saturday, 1 December for ATC Cup Day featuring the Listed $100,000 ATC Cup over 2200m.

Patrons on course will have the chance to enter the ‘The Star SMS to WIN’ competition where one lucky winner will walk away with a $300 gift voucher to Sydney’s premier entertainment destination, The Star.

A field of eight will face the starter in the main race on the program including dual Group 1 winner Fiumicino (Nash Rawiller)who will have his first start since finishing third behind 2013 Melbourne Cup early favourite Puissance De Lune in the Bendigo Cup. The nine-year-old will enter the race as the top weight at 59kg and will find strong competition in last start provincial winners Ward (James McDonald) and Watertight (Kathy O’Hara) and current TAB Fixed Odds favourite Chris Waller-trained Moriarty ($2.70).

All eyes will be on Encosta De Lago sired Riva De Lago (Alysha Collett) who will have his first start for the Chris Waller stable in the fifth race on the card; the SHARP Flying over 1200m. The five-year-old gelding has not raced in Sydney since contesting the Listed Hall Mark Stakes at Royal Randwick during the Sydney Carnival.

Riva De Lago’s main competition will come from last start winner Kris Lees-trained Uate (Tommy Berry) who will be aiming for back-to-back wins if successful on Saturday. Stratford (Corey Brown) from the Hawkes stable who will open as the short priced favourite amongst the betting ($3.20), will have his first start back after a nine month spell.

Well bred Lonhro gelding Chamandi (James McDonald) from the Anthony Freedman stable will again make the trip north to contest the ATC Membership On Sale Now Handicap. Chamandi will face his paternal half brother, lightly raced four-year-old Mercir (Corey Brown) who has won two of his five starts.

The first race gets underway at 1.00pm and gates open to the public at 11.30am. The rail will be in the +3m position and the track is currently sitting at a Dead 5 rating after 10mm of rain was recorded at the track in the past 24 hours.
