Bart Cummings Set To Enter Training Partnership With Grandson James

The legendary Cummings dynasty has been bolstered by the news that young horseman James Cummings will join his Hall Of Fame grandfather Bart in a training partnership.

While official approval has yet to be granted by racing officials, a thrilled assistant trainer James Cummings said all indications suggested the training partnership would begin later this season.

“I’m honoured to have Bart see the value in making this move and really excited about the future together,” James Cummings told RSN.

“The processes do need to get sorted out first and foremost and that is a priority in the coming weeks and we still have to lodge the papers and get the approval by the governing body as well as the stewards.

“But the feeling at the moment is that everyone is really happy for it to happen and hopefully it shouldn’t take too long.

“Bart is really keen about the future and looking forward to hopefully getting more Group 1 winners to his name.”

Bart Cummings has trained a record 266 Group 1 winners, with his 12 Melbourne Cup victories earning him the title as the ‘Cups King’.

One horse that could add to that tally this spring is exciting filly Norzita, already a two-time Group 1 winner, who is set to return to the stable in the coming weeks.

“The guys at Think Big Stud are really happy with her (Norzita), she’s there at Dato Tan Chin Nam’s property now and she’ll be coming back into work at Leilani Lodge in the next few weeks,” Cummings said.

“She’s spelling well, she looks a really happy horse and hopefully she can make that really important transition to open company and kick goals for us in the spring.”
