Billy Loughnane Set For A Stint In Sydney

A fresh face will be seen in the riding ranks in Sydney for two months later this year with Britain’s Champion Apprentice of 2023, Billy Loughnane, confirming he will travel south at the conclusion of the current British season to link up with the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable as he looks to add international experience to his already glowing resume.

The eighteen-year-old will be following in the footsteps of the likes of ‘Aussie Tom’ Marquand, who has ridden with tremendous success in Australia. Marquand and Loughnane currently sit in fourth and fifth place on the British Jockey’s Championship.

Loughnane, whose career trajectory shows he is a quick and willing learner, will be tested by the quality of riders he will be competing against in Sydney where, as he told Idol Horse, he ‘wants to gain a different kind of experience,’ but the arena itself will hold no fears for the young man with the thrill of two victories in the grand setting of Royal Ascot this year already safely behind his name.
