Black Caviar Under Consideration To Start In The Newmarket Handicap

David Taylor, part-owner of Black Caviar, has revealed to Racing Retro on Sunday that his preference would be to see the champion mare start in the $1 million Group 1 Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) on March 9 at Flemington.

Taylor said that while the owners have almost exclusively left decisions on Black Caviar’s racing future up to trainer Peter Moody, his preferred option would be to run in the Newmarket.

“To win another Newmarket would be absolutely sensational and quite frankly I think if she pulls up well this morning, which obviously we think she has, I think she’d give it a real crack,” Taylor said.

It is understood Black Caviar could get around 61.5kg for the 1200m race.

Weights for the Newmarket Handicap will be released on February 26.
