Racing NSW today announced the appointment of Ian Mackay to the position of CEO of a new race series to be conducted in Sydney.
Racing NSW Chief Executive, Peter V’landys, said: “We had a field of outstanding applicants and we’re delighted to announce Ian as the successful candidate.
“Ian has the necessary ability and experience to bring our vision for this new races series to fruition.
“The series that is being developed is currently undertaking some commercially sensitive negotiations which unfortunately do not allow more information to be provided at this stage.
“However, this new race series will complement the wonderful facility that is being developed at Royal Randwick and give Sydney a world class racing carnival. The hard work now begins for us to deliver this, ideally in time for 2014.”
Mr Mackay has worked in the racing industry for the last nine years in senior roles at Sydney Turf Club, Tabcorp and most recently as Chief Operating Officer for Australian Turf Club.
Mr Mackay previously held various commercial roles at The Coca-Cola Company and Mobil Oil. Ian said the opportunity to be the inaugural CEO of this new race series was a compelling opportunity.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to work with the great team at the ATC and other key stakeholders to present an event befitting one of the world’s best racecourses in Australia’s global city.”
Mr Mackay will commence in his role on February 11 and will report to a newly-created race series board, the makeup of which will be announced in the coming months.
Mr V’landys said: “Ian has already made such a significant contribution to the thoroughbred racing industry in New South Wales through his roles at the STC, Tabcorp and the ATC.
“Realistically, Ian is only moving offices as he will continue to work in the New South Wales racing industry and, in particular, will be working closely with the ATC to deliver this world class racing event to New South Wales.”
