Epaulette Wins Doomben 10,000

Epaulette continued the dominance of three-year-olds in weight-for-age Group 1 contests this season, surging late with a poweful finish to claim the Doomben 10,000.

The Peter Snowden trained colt, who finished second to Black Caviar first-up in the TJ Smith Stakes, appreciated a solid tempo to easily defeat Sea Siren and Buffering, who were in a photo finish for the minor placings.

Impressive BTC Cup winner Your Song firmed from $4 to start a heavily backed $3.30 favourite. He was sent forward from his wide barrier by jockey Hugh Bowman and attempted to apply pressure to Buffering at the top of the straight but his tough run told, wilting out of contention.

Epaulette became the eighth individual three-year-old to win a Group 1 against older horses, joining the likes of Pierro, All Too Hard, Shamexpress, Sacred Falls, Fiveandahalfstar, Super Cool and Your Song.
