Gai Claims Feature Double On Silver Slipper Day

Over 6,400 racegoers enjoyed a fabulous Patinack Farm Silver Slipper Day trackside this afternoon at Rosehill Gardens racecourse.

Gai Waterhouse-trained Sweet Idea (Jim Cassidy) has taken out this afternoon’s Group 2 $200,000 Patinack Farm Silver Slipper Stakes assuring the two-year-old filly a start in the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper Stakes that will be run on the same track on 6 April.

The Snitzel-sired chestnut battled it out with out Queensland-based Whiskey Allround (Ric McMahon) to the line with race favourite, Gerald Ryan-trained Charlie Boy (Glyn Schofield) filling the minor placings.

Sweet Idea now sits on the third line of the betting with TAB Fixed odds at $15.00 for the Tooheys New Golden Slipper. Stablemate Overreach remains the early favourite for the world’s richest two-year-old race at $4.60.

Champion colt Pierro, winner of last year’s Silver Slipper, commenced his autumn campaign with a hard fought win in the Group 2 $200,000 Hobartville Stakes over previously unbeaten Rebel Dane, to give trainer Gai Waterhouse a feature race double. The Lonhro-sired colt will now target Group 1 riches during the BMW Sydney Carnival with a multitude of options against his own age group or in weight-for-age company.
