Gai Waterhouse breaks the record and wins her 8th Metropolitan Handicap. She was equal on seven win with her late father T.J. Smith. Imported galloper Glencadam Gold has given Gai her stand alone record on the race when he wins the Metropolitan from another import Kelinni.
Earlier in the day, Gai equals Smith’s record of 7 wins in the Epsom Handicap when Fat Al wins the Epsom leading from start to finish.
Meanwhile in Melbourne, the Robert Hickmott trained Lloyd Williams owned Green Moon wins the Group 1 Turnbull stakes at Flemington. Green Moon is now being aimed at the Cox Plate. The runner up, Seville, owned in the same interest as Green Moon will be aimed at the Caulfield Cup.
