John Gosden trained Gatewood has won the Geelong Cup this afternoon. In a leisurely run race, Glen Boss settled Gatewood in second position, just behind the leader. The race developed into a sprint home and Gatewood had too big a break on the field for the others to make up ground.
Gatewood was unlucky in the Herbert Power and eventually missed a start in the Caulfield Cup. Today’s victory would ensure Gatewood safely in the Melbourne Cup field.
The heavily backed race favourite, Brigantin, was battling on for 3rd.
