A panel of Sydney’s leading bookmakers expect to take more than $200,000 in bets on Saturday’s Tooheys New Golden Slipper at the annual “Call of the Card” to be held in Sydney on Friday 5th April.
The Golden Slipper Call of the Card is open to the public and will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel (199 George St, Sydney) from 3pm.
The leading Sydney bookmakers who will offer their best prices on all runners in the Golden Slipper are David Dwyer, Robbie Waterhouse, Bill Murphy, Jeff Pendlebury, Mark Merlino and Warren Woodcock.
“We took more than $225,000 in bets from punters at the last Golden Slipper Call of the Card and I am certain we will do at least the same volume of business this year,” said David Dwyer, chairman of NSW Bookmakers Co-Operative.
“We will cater for cash and credit punters big and small and invite the public to attend what is an important prelude to the Golden Slipper as it will establish the market for Saturday.
After the barrier draw on Tuesday, the current race favourite Overreach will certainly be hot property with punters. The Gai Waterhouse-trained filly has drawn barrier 1,
“The bookmakers at the Call of the Card are certain to offer better odds than those currently available as they are yet to lay bets against any Golden Slipper runner and will be keen to set a platform for their business at the course on Saturday,” Dwyer said.
