Group 1 Racing This Easter Saturday At Rosehill Gardens

The BMW Sydney Carnival continues this Saturday, 30 March with M.J Bale Rosehill Guineas Day at Rosehill Gardens which will feature a full nine race card of great Black Type racing, two at the elite Group 1 level.

The signature event of the day is the Group 1 $500,000 M.J. Bale Rosehill Guineas for Australia’s best three-year-old Thoroughbreds has attracted a quality field of nine including multiple Group 1 winning It’s a Dundeel (James McDonald) from the Murray Baker stable. The son of High Chapparel will start as the short priced TAB Fixed Odds favourite at $1.85 after taking his first steps toward capturing Sydney’s three-year-old Triple Crown with a decisive win in the Group 1 $500,000 Royal Randwick Guineas a fortnight ago.

Anthony Cummings-trained Fiveandahalfstar (Peter Robl) sits on the second line of the betting at $3.60 following a string of close second placings in each of his four starts this campaign.

Four individual Group 1 winners will face the starter in the other racing highlight of the day, the Group 1 $350,000 Canterbury BMW Galaxy over 1100m. Hay List (Glynn Schofield) will head into the race as the top weight at 59.5kg following a strong performance in his first race back from a life threatening injury in almost 12 months in the Challenge Stakes at Warwick Farm on 16 March.

The Galaxy will also see the return of Sea Siren (Jim Cassidy) to the track for the first time since contesting the Hong Kong Sprint in December. The four-year-old mare boasts a 55% winning strike rate and has opened as equal second favourite with Hay List at $6.00.

However it is well bred Snitzel filly Snitzerland (Corey Brown) that has opened as the race favourite at $2.80 after a three length last start victory which saw her break the 1000m track record at Warwick Farm.

Tooheys New Golden Slipper ballot exemption is at stake when the two-year-olds take to the track in the two key juvenile races on the program. Assail (Craig Williams) from the Clarry Conners yard heads the acceptances in the in the Group 2 $175,000 Parramatta Leagues Club Magic Night Stakes, and Gerald Ryan-trained colt Dothraki (Glyn Schofield) and Good Job Bro (Hugh Bowman) for John Sargent will line up in the Group 2 $175,000 Bowerman’s Office Furniture Pago Pago Stakes.

Trackside entertainment will be in full supply including two live performances by X Factor’s Samantha Jade, the Easter Bunny handing out Easter eggs, themed bars and the Emeri Pamper Lounge.

The first race gets underway at 12.10pm and gates open to the public at 11.00am. The rail will be +2m Entire Circuit and the track is currently rated a Good 3.
