The Australian Turf Club invites racegoers to enjoy Group racing this Saturday, 9 February for Expressway Stakes Day at Warwick Farm.
There are a number of great reasons to get down to the track this weekend. On top of the great eight-race card, 1000 free cupcakes will be given out in celebration of the Club’s second birthday. Patrons on course will have the chance to enter the ‘The Star SMS to WIN’ competition where one lucky winner will walk away with a $300 gift voucher to Sydney’s premier entertainment destination, The Star.
On the track, the feature race of the day, the Group 2 $200,000 Expressway Stakes has attracted a strong field of 10 including Group 1 winners Danleigh (Hugh Bowman), Albert the Fat (Brenton Avdulla) and Doctor Doom (Rod Quinn).
Happy Galaxy (Jay Ford) from the Hawkes stable will also face the starter in the 1200m sprint. The three-year-old has opened has opened as the $2.80 favorite with TAB Fixed Odds after bringing up his hat-trick of wins last start in the Listed Zedative Stakes at Caulfield.
All eyes will be on the Australian Turf Club Handicap for two-year-olds with six of the eight-horse field all second acceptors for the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper.
Gary Portelli-trained All the Talk (Hugh Bowman) will start as the top weight at 58kg and will be very competitive after his last start win in the Warwick Farm Plate on 1 December and recent strong barrier trial form.
Last start winner Charge Account (Hugh Bowman) is expected to start as one of the favourites in the fifth race of the day, the Happy 2nd Birthday ATC Handicap. The John O’Shea-trained three-year-old claimed his maiden victory at Canterbury Park on 25 January and will be looking to extend his form here.
The first race gets underway at 1.07pm and gates open to the public at 11.30am. The rail will be +3m Entire Circuit and the track is currently sitting at a Dead 4 rating.
