Incentivise’s Success In New Role

This time three years ago, Incentivise was a Group 3 winner on a Caulfield Cup path.

Ultimately, he would take out Caulfield’s premier race and run second in the Melbourne Cup during an incredible spring in 2021.

Leading into this spring, Incentivise is living a very different life. The champion galloper resides at Yarraman Park in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley, passing on his wisdom to young horses carving their path in life.

“Geez he’s a magnificent horse, he’s doing such a super job in his new role here at Yarraman,” Matt Scown of Yarraman Park said.

“He’s a nanny here, his sole job is to look after the weanlings who are yearlings on the first of August, he just keeps them company and makes sure they’re settled in their groups.

“There’s no better nanny on the farm than him, he’s just sensational. He’s a magnificent horse and he’s a pleasure to have here, we love him to bits.”

Scown says the attributes that made Incentivise such a good racehorse have carried over to his new mentoring role.

“He’s just got an unbelievable attitude, he’s got a magnificent demeanour, he doesn’t have a nasty bone in his body, he’s just a lovely horse to be around,” Scown said.

“If the weanlings that he looks after can take half of his ability, then we’ll have some bloody good racehorses.

“It’s a pretty good life for him here. He lives the life of leisure, he is very well looked after.

“He’s a hugely important part of the weanlings’ growth period, they’re like children, they’re learning and need discipline, which he gives them in a very caring way.”
