Le Roi Qualifies For The Spring Cups

The boxing day feature race, the Group 3 Summer Cup 2400m, was won by the Tony McEvoy-trained Le Roi.

The imported galloper won his fourth race in a row for McEvoy and his victory in the Summer Cup will set a platform for the stayer to run in richer races.

Le Roi settled behind the leader Iggy Pop until the home turn when he gained a rails run while Iggy Pop was drifting off the fence. Le Roi kicked strongly in the straight and beat Brightest by three-quarters of a length with Praecido finishing third.

McEvoy said autumn targets were undecided for the promising galloper but it’s next year’s spring Cups that are in the South Australian trainer’s sights.

“He’s passed a couple of clauses for the big spring handicaps so that moves him up the list a bit,” McEvoy said.
