Light Rail Service To Royal Randwick

Racegoers will be the winners following today’s announcement that the light rail facility will be extended to service Royal Randwick.

NSW Premier, the Hon. Barry O’Farrell, and Transport Minister, Gladys Berejiklian, said that the Government is committed to improving transport around Sydney.

Racing NSW Chairman, John Messara, welcomed the announcement: “This is fantastic news for racing in Sydney.

“It could not have come at a better time as it complements the Australian Turf Club’s redevelopment of Royal Randwick.

“I inspected the Randwick redevelopment yesterday and it is progressing well and living right up to expectations.

“Sydney will have a world-class facility soon and with the light rail announcement today, we will have a fast and efficient way to transport people to and from the racetrack.

“The extension of the light rail will make it much more appealing to get people to Royal Randwick’s front door, especially during the carnivals.”

The extension of the light rail service will link Central Station with Royal Randwick, Fox Studios, Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney Football Stadium, University of NSW and Randwick’s hospitals.

More than 12,000 people can be moved per hour via light rail against 3500 on Sydney’s buses.
