Longer Trips Are The Key To Miss Venus

Veteran Randwick trainer Les Bridge is starting to think he has worked out his six-year-old mare Miss Venus.

The beautifully bred Galileo – Miss Zoe mare had only won three races from 19 starts before her strong win over 2200-metres at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

“She’s better off I think over these sorts of distances being by Galileo,” Bridge said after Miss Venus outstayed a solid group of midweek stayers.

“I was a little worried because I thought the track might have been getting a bit too hard for her, but it didn’t seem to bother her,” Bridge added.

Given a perfect ride by Tim Clark, who never left the rail at any stage of the race, Miss Venus ($15) was able to hold on and win by half a length from Black Jag ($8) with a neck away to Son Of Ross ($5.50) in third place.

“She was well-weighted and well ridden and I’m starting to think the longer trips are the trick to her,” he added.
