The ATC has received 63 nominations for Australia’s only weight for age race over the classic distance of a mile and a half, the $2.25m The BMW to be run on Saturday, 6 April 2013 at Rosehill Gardens.
Last year’s winner Manighar (FR) heads the entries for Peter Moody, while Darren Weir’s import Puissance de Lune (IRE) who was perhaps the most exciting find of the spring, is also amongst the nominations.
Leading trainer Gai Waterhouse is keeping her options open with Triple Crown winning colt Pierro, who joins Chandon Spring Champion Stakes winner It’s A Dundeel (NZ) and VRC Derby winner Fiveandahalfstar as the leading three-year-olds entered.
Waterhouse is also well represented with last year’s Flinders Lane Rosehill Guineas winner Laser Hawk; McGrath Estate Agents The Metropolitan winner Glencadam Gold (IRE) and VRC Melbourne Cup runner up Fiorente (IRE).
Group 1 winning New Zealand mares Silent Achiever (NZ) and Quintessential (NZ) head up the mares nominations for the race.
“The entries include Group 1 classic winners from the current and past season along with a good representation of European imports who have firmly established themselves in our staying ranks ,” ATC Executive General Manager Racing – Matt Rudolph said.
Connections will be looking to gain automatic entry into the final field via the Ranvet Stakes on the opening day of this year’s BMW Sydney Carnival, Ladies Day (23 March).
