Peter Moody is looking to the future with promising staying mare Alma Rise and that’s why he’s identified her next start as being over 2400 metres at Caulfield on November 30.
“We will continue to work our way through the grades with her, but we can dream that she will be back there in 10 months for a bigger 2400-metre race,” Moody said in reference to the Caulfield Cup.
Moody has picked the Benchmark 84 for the four-year-old mare at Caulfield after she was successful in a Benchmark 80 over 2000m at Flemington on VRC Oaks Day, which took her record to six starts for three wins and three second placings.
“She overcame difficulties to win at Flemington. I thought she was good the way she put them away in the closing stages when she finally got into the clear,” Moody said.
Moody said after her next start at Caulfield, Alma Rise will have a break before coming back for the autumn.
“That will be it for her this campaign. That will be her fourth run in and we’ll start to look towards the autumn,” he said.
“She’s a nice, progressive mare and she can work her way through to the better grade of races.”
Alma Rise had also demonstrated her staying capabilities at the end of her first preparation when she finished second in the VRC St Leger.
