No Oaks Miracle For Messara

Highly promising filly and the daughter of Miss Finland, Miracle Of Love, has gone for a spell and will not be seen during the Spring Carnival.

The Group 1 J.J. Atkins runner-up from earlier this year was withdrawn from the Jim Moloney Stakes when a well-backed favourite ahead of her first-up run but had subsequently trialled well at Flemington on October 6.

“She got a virus on the eve of the Jim Moloney,” trainer Paul Messara explained.

“She had a good jumpout, but her bloods weren’t right after the jumpout.

“She was good leading into it and everything looked right but she regressed after the jumpout, so we didn’t want to press her any harder.”

Messara had hoped the filly could emulate her mother by winning the VRC Oaks and she was set to contest Saturday’s Thousand Guineas Prelude, but he said instead she will be set for the ATC Oaks in the autumn.

The daughter of Dundeel, who was a $17 chance for the Thousand Guineas, is the 10th foal from Miss Finland, who has now been retired from broodmare duties.

Miss Finland, who produced G1 winner Stay With Me, has a full sister to Miracle Of Love on the ground.
