Premier jockey Hugh Bowman won the Group 1 Flight Stakes on Norzita for Bart Cummings. Norzita was unlucky last start being first past the post in the Tea Rose Stakes but lost the race on protest to Longport. Justice was done when Norzita defeated the same galloper in the Flight Stakes.
Bowman rode Norzita confidently taking off on the filly at the 500m mark. Once in the straight, Norzita was full of running and it was just a matter of how far she won by.
Norzita’s victory gave Bart Cummings his 265th Group 1 win, and is only behind the all time record of 282 held by T.J. Smith.
At this stage, Cummings is undecided whether he would take Norzita to Melbourne for the Thousand Guineas as the filly has been up for a long time this preparation.
