Pride Of Jenni Wins All Star Mile

Pride Of Jenni has won the $3.75 million All-Star Mile in breathtaking style, setting a sharp speed up top and maintaining a comfortable margin down the Caulfield straight under another perfect Declan Bates steer.

The two-time Group 1 winner did what most expected and waited for no one, leading Buffalo River to the corner and kicking clear to win in her trademark front-running style.

Mr Brightside simply ended up too far back from the wide barrier, running home respectably for second but never really putting Ciaron Maher’s superstar mare in danger, with Cascadian a length further back in third.

Owned by Tony and Lynn Ottobre, Pride Of Jenni has now won over $5 million for connections.

The win also pockets Pride Of Jenni’s ASM Ambassador Sharon White $100,000.

And Maher said the campaign could continue as soon as next week, with Pride Of Jenni, as well as Mr Brightside and Cascadian all possibilities to run in the Australian Cup next week.

“There are obviously options in Sydney (and) the Australian Cup. Tony has always been very keen to get her to 2000,” he said.”

“We were half contemplating a Cox Plate last year, so she’ll be hard to beat in whatever she goes in… She’s very, very special. Tony and Lyn, they put a great deal in, but you don’t get horses that can do that.

“It’s just stamina, isn’t it? Most horses have a 600-metre sprint, and she seems like she can do it for half a mile or 1000 metres. She’s unbelievable.”

He was also full of praise for Bates, who delivered yet another gem of a ride aboard the pin-up daughter of Pride Of Dubai.

“He (Bates) understands her. You’ve got to have the confidence to ride her like that,” he said.

“There was a bit of conjecture today about speed in the race and I said, ‘don’t worry about that, you know the horse, trust yourself and the horse, just ride the race’ and he said, ‘I just want to be smooth’… he never rides her bad.

“Dec Bates, unbelievable. My team, super. There’s a lot that goes into it and as I said, Tony and Lyn, fantastic, they put a lot into racing.”

Pride Of Jenni is a $5 chance for the Australian Cup, with Mr Brightside a $2.80 favourite and Gold Trip next at $6.
