Real Surreal Has Finally Won It For Wood

Queensland filly Real Surreal has provided trainer Kelso Wood with reason for an overdue celebration in the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

The classic was marred by the early morning scratching of the original favourite Assail who failed a vet test with foot abscess.

In a driving finish, Real Surreal overhauled Gai Waterhouse-trained Sweet Idea in the final stages to win by a short neck with the favourite Missy Longstocking 1-1/4 lengths away third.

Wood had won and lost the 2YO classic 25 years ago but is in no danger of losing this one. Wood trained Prince Regent who was first past the post in 1988 but lost the race on protest to Molokai Prince.

Wood has indicated that Real Surreal will go for a spell now.
