Rosehill Gardens Welcomes The Festive Season This Christmas Cup Day

The Australian Turf Club has received 87 acceptors for Christmas Cup Day this Saturday, 15 December at Rosehill Gardens.

Patrons on course will have the chance to enter the ‘The Star SMS to WIN’ competition where one lucky winner will walk away with a $300 gift voucher to Sydney’s premier entertainment destination, The Star.

On the track, the highlight of the eight-race card is the Listed $100,000 Uncle Tony’s Christmas Cup. Fiumicino (Nash Rawiller), King Utah (Christian Reith) and Moriarty (Corey Brown), who ran the trifecta in the ATC Cup a fortnight ago, will all face the starter in the 2400m test. Cantonese (Jim Cassidy) will start the race as the favourite at $3.60 with TAB Fixed Odds following an impressive five wins from her last seven starts.

Last start winner Scream Machine (Kathy O’Hara) will take his place in an open field of 11 in the Greg Houston Plumbing Handicap. The four-year-old will face the competitive Fastnet Rock-sired Charing Cross (Nash Rawiller) and consistent Chris Waller-trained gelding Marden (Peter Robl) over 1900m.

Kris Lees-trained Uate (Jenny Duggan) will start the Parramatta Leagues Club Handicap (1400m) as the top weight after finishing a strong second to John McNair-trained Irish Jig (Nathan Berry) who will also contest the race. Lightly raced five-year-old Privately (Peter Robl) who boasts a 50% strike rate will be another strong chance.

The first race gets underway at 1.00pm and gates open to the public at 11.30am. The rail will be in the +6m position and the track is currently sitting at a Good 3 rating and with clear weather forecast until the end of the week, ATC General Manager Racecourses Lindsay Murphy is expecting no change to track conditions come Saturday.
