Last year’s Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready will not run in this Saturday’s Group 1 Lightning Stakes but instead to be saved for the Listed $120,000 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on February 22.
Samaready won a 700m jump-out at Caulfield two weeks ago. And the filly continued to please trainer Mick Price in her preparation after another nice effort in a second trial last week.
However, the filly has not raced since being unplaced on a heavy track at Caulfield in August, and Vinery Stud General Manager Peter Orton confirmed the Lightning was off the agenda.
“It was decided after talking with Mick Price that we didn’t want to run her in a 1000 metre sprint against Black Caviar after not racing for a while,” Orton said.
“There’s a hell of a lot of racing in front of her and the Typhoon Tracy is against her own sex at Listed level which we thought was the right stepping stone for her to let us know where she is at.”
