Stradbroke History Against Epaulette

STAR colt Epaulette will have to smash all sorts of records if he’s to win next month’s Stradbroke Handicap.

Epaulette was today asked by Racing Queensland handicapper Nathan Bourke to carry 56kg in the $1.36 million race at Eagle Farm on June 8.

While four three-year-olds – Sincero (2011), Sniper’s Bullet (2007), La Montagna (2006) and Private Steer (2003) – have won the Stradbroke in the past decade none were asked to shoulder anywhere near the handicap of Epaulette .

Sincero carried the biggest impost of the four above mentioned three-year-olds when he won with 50.5kg.

Sniper’s Bullet carried 50kg; La Montagna 48.5 and Private Steer 48 kg.

Show A Heart, a four-year-old who had previously won the Caulfield Guineas and Toorak Handicap with 55kg, is the last Stradbroke winner to carry 56kg to victory.
