Summary Of Our Trainers’ Tips For Sporting Chance Foundation Day

From Keith Dryden

Horse: Loafing
Message: (Saturday, Randwick Race 1, Highway Hcp) Loafing is a horse that we’re having a bit of fun with, he handles the wet OK so he’ll be there on Saturday.

Horse: Handle The Truth
Message: (Saturday, Randwick Race 8, Fujitsu General Hcp) His better runs are earlier in the prep so I’ve planned to give him one or two more runs, tip him out for four to six weeks and then get him back into work to have a go at The Kosciuszko again. What I didn’t want to do was leave him out for five or six months and then bring him back and make it hard to get him to peak in The Kosciuszko. The horse is going well but I’m just not too sure yet if he’s going to run, I’ll just see how the track is on Saturday morning. I just don’t want him to be running on a real heavy bog, he doesn’t like the wet very much but I’ve got a back up plan should he not run on Saturday. There’s a race for him at Flemington over 1400m next week so we’ll go there if it’s too heavy in Sydney.

Horse: Fangela
Message: (Saturday, Randwick Race 9, Uphire Hcp) Big jump in grade for Fangela but he’s not a real wet tracker but there’s a race for him in Melbourne next week as well.

Horse: Global Ausbred
Message: (Saturday, Brisbane Race 8, Queensland Derby) At his past three starts, Global Ausbred has posted a brace of wins at Canterbury and Newcastle and sandwiched in between was a fifth over 1800m at the stand-alone Hawkesbury Saturday meeting. To win three in a preparation, he went from a maiden to a midweek against older horses and then to a (benchmark) 78 in town at the Hawksbury stand-alone meeting and I haven’t had many horses able to do that and be competitive. I think he is a pretty handy horse. I’m not getting carried away, but I will be disappointed if he doesn’t run well. It (barrier 5) makes the job a little bit easier for him. He likes to roll forward and I’m not saying he has to lead, but he will be up in that first half of the field and we can get going when we need to.

Horse: Carnival Miss
Message: (Saturday, Randwick Race 1, Highway Hcp) A tough genuine mare, well in with 54kg off 2nd in the Queen of The South, strong form race for a Class 3, just hoping Tyler (Schiller) can get near 52kg with his claim. Highways are getting harder to win for the prizemoney, but worth a crack. She’s always competitive, 1400m form and her best is on wet tracks. Most of her owners are from Tumbarumba, it’s a big thrill having a city starter.

Horse: Taylor Be Swift
Message: (Saturday, Randwick Race 1, Highway Hcp) Taylor Be Swift drops to 55kg after winning with 56.5kg at Nowra. We’re monitoring the conditions and where she’s drawn (gate 15) but mares generally hold their form, she’s won on heavy, her owners were keen to come while she’s eligible as she’d get a lot more weight at the regionals.

Horse: Ting Tong
Message: (Saturday, Brisbane Race 8, Queensland Derby) Ting Tong booked his passage north with a strong 2nd to Aravene over 2000m at Rosehill last Saturday, showing grit and stamina to stick to his task in the heavy conditions. However, he will have to overcome barrier 18. We will probably have to ride him a bit conservatively. But the horse is going well and he is ready for the 2400. I don’t think it’s a classic year and he has still got to lift again but he was good the other day. All his runs lately have been on really testing tracks and I think he will be a bit better on top of the ground.
