Sydney trained horses have dominated the Victoria Derby Day meeting. Three of the four Group 1 races on Derby Day were won by Sydney trainers starting with the Patinack owned Nechita winning the Coolmore Stud Stakes, followed by Fiveandahalfstar winning the Victoria Derby and Guy Walter won the Myer Classic with Apperance.
The day kicked off with the Bart Cummings gelding Lunar Rise winning the first race on the card. Overall, Sydney trained horses have won 6 of the 9 races on Derby Day.
