Melbourne jockey Chris Symons combined with Tasmanian galloper Norsqui to win the Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) for trainer Walter McShane on Monday.
Symons only came back to race riding a month ago from an injury lay-off.
“I would say today was the biggest win of my career. I’ve won a few Group 2 races but nothing like a state cup.
“It makes it all worth it when you follow a horse around. I’ve been flying to Tasmania to ride this horse and to win today was a real bonus,” Symons said.
Settling mid-field early in the race, Symons started to make his move at the 600m and Norsqui hit the front in the last furlong, beating Waratone by half-a-length with Pat Carey-trained Dame Claire finished third.
