Three Time G1 Winner Duais Retired

Duais, a three time Group 1 winner, has been retired abruptly, just one day after her connections secured a spot in the All Star Mile.

Trainer Ed Cummings’ galloper underwent scans on Thursday morning due to swelling detected in her off-fore leg, revealing an injury to her medial suspensory branch. Following consultations with the ownership group, it was decided to retire her immediately, ending her racing career prematurely.

The sudden retirement of Duais presents a challenge for Racing Victoria as they scramble to fill another spot in the upcoming March 16 race, with seven wildcards now available.

Duais exits the racing scene with an impressive record, having amassed over $4 million in prize money. The stable expressed their gratitude to everyone involved in Duais’ career, highlighting the contributions of staff, riders, jockeys, veterinarians, farriers, physiotherapists, and ownership.

While saddened by the turn of events, the stable reflected on Duais’ remarkable achievements on the racetrack, acknowledging her brilliance, determination, and toughness. They reminisced about her memorable performances and expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to have had her in their lives.

Although acknowledging that there will never be another Duais, the stable remains hopeful for the possibility of nurturing another horse with similar qualities in the future.
