Waller To Win Race Named In His Honour

Chris Waller, hot off smashing the training record last Saturday at Rosehill, looks set to create another small piece of history today (Wednesday) at Canterbury Park.

He has three runners in the 11 horse field sixth race, the ‘Congratulations Chris Waller Handicap.’

In-form apprentice John Kissick will take 3kg off the consistent Dynamic Syndications galloper Trick Shot. The mare has finished no further back than fifth in her last 10 starts, including wins at Gosford and Canterbury.

The Canterbury win back in late March was over 1900m, the same distance as Wednesday’s assignment, in a slightly higher graded event.

Waller also has Urban Rocker third-up in the event and getting up to her preferred distance range. Urban Rocker carries the same silks as Sacred Falls, which provided Waller with one of his key highlights of the season in April when he ploughed through the wet conditions to take out the Group 1 Doncaster.

The third stable runner is Seuss, which should also be ready to produce results fifth-up in his campaign and having drawn the inside alley. Seuss, part owned by the wife of popular TVN personality Richard Callander, has also played a part in Waller’s amazing year, if not for all the right reasons.

Seuss was disqualified after winning at Gosford earlier this year when contaminated feed found its way into one of the trainer’s six barns at Rosehill.

The disqualification, while disappointing for connections, had no impact on the trainers run for the premiership as he also trained the runner-up that day, The Shooter, which was awarded the race win.
